Transform Leatherhead’s study of the High Street gets underway

Councillor Simon Edge

Improving Leatherhead High Street is a priority for Transform Leatherhead.

Recently appointed consultants Arcadis have begun gathering baseline survey data to build a picture of how the High Street currently operates. The survey will capture pedestrian, cycling and vehicle movements including parking and deliveries at key points along the survey area, focusing on the High Street.

The data will be complemented by a Surrey County Council Highway safety review and by gathering further information from key stakeholders. A focus group will be held in March where key stakeholders will be invited to share views about the future of the High Street.

The data will be analysed and used to appraise potential options for improving the High Street in the short and long term.

Councillor Simon Edge, Cabinet Member for Prosperity, said “This High Street Feasibility Study is an essential step towards finding the best way to improve Leatherhead High Street and a key part of our plan to transform Leatherhead. Once Arcadis have delivered the potential feasible options for improving the High Street, we will hold a public consultation exercise so that everyone can share their views on the options proposed.

“This study is not being undertaken in isolation, it is part of the wider Transform Leatherhead initiatives such as our transport modelling work that will help us understand the traffic impacts of Transform Leatherhead and our work towards a long-term vision to revitalise the Swan Centre.

“We will be sharing our progress with the study at our next public forum at 7pm on 7th March 2019 at the Leatherhead Theatre.”
